Competing mental health narratives in a maddening age: Critical theory's enantiodromia


Abstract

This article seeks to surface the problem of competing mental health arguments; considerable polarisation is inevitable. So-called optimal mental health includes aspirations to a holistic balance of emotional, cognitive, physical and spiritual components, and mental ill health (or mental health problems) can be seen as deficits in these domains.
