The construct revisited, 2021

Abstract

This article proposes that Kelly's vision of 'The Construct', with its bipolarity, can serve as a unit of analysis that is capable of unifying the fragmented discipline of psychology and indeed beyond to neighbouring disciplines of sociology, anthropology, politics, philosophy, literary theory and history. The idea is not to resurrect a 'grand theory' but to utilize a remarkably useful and profound tool which has theoretical clarity as well as a host of associated practical techniques valuable in research and intervention in human situations.
